Born To Set His People Free | Carols by Candlelight

Designed for Miranda Congregational Church, this flyer was distributed around the neighbourhood before the annual Christmas carols service.  It aimed to communicate the main theme of the Sermon – the birth of Jesus and what it means for us as a people, while also offering relevant information about the unique service.  The design attempted to draw in a crowd from around the area of those who were looking to hear more about the Lord, aiming to appeal to people who don’t necessarily attend church every Sunday.

The title ‘Born to set His people free’ highlights that the birth of Jesus was no ordinary birth, but rather an even with purpose as Jesus grows up to save His people. As a co-planner of the event, I ensured this theme was accompanied with carols to emphasise this theme including Baby Boy and Come Thou Long Expected Jesus, alongside a variety of classic Christmas carols.

The service utilised three different musical styles played in sets to offer variety. The bands consisted of a full band with piano, keyboard, accoustic guitar, drums, violin, clarinet, and three vocalists; a ukelele group consisting of two ukeleles and three vocalists; and an acapella group consisting of four vocalists. In addition to this, the service showcased the children’s Sunday School groups who shared two Christmas songs they had practiced; a drama; and a sermon which all aimed to centre those in attendance on Christ and his purpose here on earth: to set us free.
