A paper art piece, sewn from musical score sheet music to create a dress. The artwork explores the concept of musical notation and how it can be represented in different forms. The idea for this piece originated from wanting to explore the different possibilities of paper and move beyond its typical functions. The integration of a musical aspect came about upon realising a need for interesting and unusual clothing ensembles for performances, within a haute couture style. The work attempts to offer an alternative to the everyday style of clothing, by providing an elegant and sophisticated dress made entirely from paper. Drawing upon artists such as Nick Cage, and clothing styles worn by singer Lady Gaga, the piece offers a sense of normalcy to the absurd idea of a paper dress. The process of creating the dress became a large part of the final product, with the need for precise folding, sewing of large amounts of paper pleats, use of paper mache for a tight bodice, and weaving of tissue paper to form rope to bind the dress together. The final product has become infused with the process of creation.
