Women in Construction: Late-Start Program

The M7-M12 Integration project launched a pre-employment program in early 2024, designed specifically with a late-start to create opportunities in the construction industry for people who have other life commitments, such as carer responsibilities for children or elder family members.

I have played an instrumental role in the Late-Start Program, developing engaging and impactful collateral to promote women’s participation in the construction industry and to help share their experiences. As part of this, I championed the development of a video series which highlighted the experiences of the women participating in the inaugural Late-Start Program.

“The way you cut together this video is so emotive. You have captured the message and detail of their experience in such an amazing way”.
– Steve Kiddle, M7-M12 Integration Project Director

“This is something we would pay an external company thousands of dollars to get produced”.
– Jayne Whitney, John Holland Chief Strategy Officer

This series features interviews from five of the participants and shares insights on why these women decided to embark on a new career, the support offered to them, and how the late start enables them to work flexibly while managing other commitments.

In managing this video series, I took on the responsibilities of videographer, interviewer, editor, and determining the angle for each video based on the responses provided by the team. In this process, I ensured that the experiences that were discussed in these short edits were true reflections of their feelings, rather than editing their comments out of context to promote a specific agenda.
